City announces temporary reduction in building permit fees

Satellite Permit Office to Process Expedited Building Permits

FORT MYERS, FL (Sept. 27, 2018) – The Fort Myers City Council recently voted to cut building permit fees by 50 percent for one year beginning on October 1. “It is our hope that this significant fee reduction will encourage additional economic development activity and job creation in the city,” said Saeed Kazemi, P.E., City Manager.

In addition to the building permit fee reduction, a comprehensive fee study conducted by MGT Consulting Group recommended adjusting other building and development fees to align with annual costs. The results of the study were presented in a special workshop on August 13, and suggested future modifications to the city’s planning, engineering and fire inspection fees.

Recent population increases have pushed the city’s population to more than 80,000 residents. “It’s a transformative time in the city,” said Kazemi. “There is positive momentum in the development community and it is in our best interest to remain competitive with our fee structure.” Citizens can track development activity through the city’s development map updated weekly at https://bit.ly/2yWvVYH.
