FORT MYERS, FL (May 15, 2018) – The downtown boat ramp will be closed starting on Monday, May 21 for construction to begin on the Mainsail Development project approved by City Council on April 23. Public access will be available at the Oasis boat ramp, located at 2951 Frierson Street.
The Mainsail development will bring a new 243-room Autograph Collection hotel by Marriott plus a parking garage, amphitheater and renovated events center along with approximately 250 post-construction jobs to downtown Fort Myers.
Manhattan Construction is installing fencing this week, and utility work on the project is slated to start in June. “You’ll be seeing more equipment move to the site as construction on the parking garage begins,” said Saeed Kazemi, P.E., City Manager. “The city’s return on investment on this project is estimated to be more than half a billion dollars, money that will go back into the local economy through job creation, increased tourism, additional tax and event center revenue, and future parking fees generated by the city-owned parking garage.”
The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
