FORT MYERS, FL (Mar. 28, 2019) – In response to community concern over vehicular collisions and a favorable traffic control signal warrant, a new traffic signal is now operating for all directions of traffic flowing through the Challenger Boulevard and Winkler Avenue intersection. Safety improvements are complete; motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution when navigating the new traffic pattern.
“The safety of our citizens is our primary goal,” said Saeed Kazemi, P.E., City Manager. “While the city enjoys growth, continued improvements and future planning are necessary to keep our roads safe and manage traffic flow.”
Included in the project are a new crosswalk across Winkler at the south side of the intersection, and two sidewalk connections to the existing sidewalks. The approaches to the intersection were milled, repaved and striped, and the formerly angled crosswalk across Challenger Boulevard was made into a straight crossing.
