FORT MYERS, FL (Feb. 12, 2019) – Professional and amateur golfers alike will compete in the Yuengling Open at the Fort Myers Country Club on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, 2019. Admission and parking is free, and spectators are permitted to walk fairways with the players.
The Yuengling Open is in its 57th year and is the longest running golf event in the region. Defending champion Eric Steger will be among the players vying for the Yuengling Open title. Other players include past winners and Southwest Florida natives Dereck Lamely and George McNeill.
Rich Lamb, director of golf for the City of Fort Myers, says the tournament provides a unique opportunity for spectators. “Attendees can get up close and personal with the game at the Fort Myers Country Club,” says Lamb. “Our world-class public course provides a dynamic venue for this annual tournament, and it’s free to attend.”
The Fort Myers Country Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017 and is one of the oldest golf facilities on the west coast of Florida. The par-70 course was renovated in 2014. Since its renovation, “The Fort” has been named the Best Public Golf Course in Southwest Florida by Gulfshore Business magazine.
