FORT MYERS, Fla. (Jan. 22, 2018) – New construction jobs are opening up every day, and the SWFL Enterprise Center is offering a free pre-construction readiness training program to help local citizens take the next steps to employment in the construction industry. The first workshop begins on Feb. 1, 2018, a six-week program that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. There is no cost to attend, but the first class is limited to 30 students. The SWFL Enterprise center is located at 3903 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33916.
Michael Love, director of the SWFL Enterprise Center, credits the program partners working with the City to make this program possible Partners include SKANSKA, B&I, Career Source of Southwest Florida, and Lee County Economic Development.
Students will learn key instructive areas including: construction 101; basic safety; introduction to construction math; introduction to hand tools and ladders; basic communication skills; basic employability skills; introduction to materials handling and basic rigging; and first aid.
Upon completion of the six-week program, students will be eligible to apply for entry-level construction jobs.
“We urge students to register as soon as possible due to the limited seats available,” said Mr. Love.
