A Letter from Councilman Ward 2 - Johnny W. Streets Jr.

I want to take this opportunity to welcome each and every one of you to the New Year 2018.

Briefly, 2017 was a year of the good, bad, and the ugly. As your Ward 2 City Representative, it is my prayer for all to have a prosperous New Year. That prayer can be delivered if we in ourselves make it happen.

As the New Year gets underway, we'll hear predictions ranging from the terrifying to the wildly optimistic. Many of them will be stated with a great deal of confidence and authority. Don't be alarmed. Our confidence remains in the One at the very heart of the scriptures. He has a firm grip on us and on our future.

Father, whenever we are troubled or alarmed, help us to seek You. We commit this year (2018) and all it holds to You. I will continue to put "Service before Self" as a commitment to whom I represent. I will continue to not be silent on issues that matter most to you and our communities. Together we want better communities, better government, better public safety, and better public health. All politics is local. The buck starts and stops with me. Together we will continue to seek solutions and not scapegoat to resolve our issues. I will not be adversarial to the people I serve. As many of you have done over the years, I want to be held accountable and responsible for my actions as well as my inactions.

Just as a reminder, the world is a stage and we as people are merely actors. Some of us are playing our parts better than others for the good of our fellow citizens. We must keep the main things the main things, such as public health, public safety, environmental safety, and education.

In closing remember this, "We the People". I look forward to serving and representing the people of this great City, particularly those who live in Ward Two. Together we can continue to improve the quality of life for all. Now I have to get back to work. You can count on me!
