FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 7, 2019) – Local American Legion posts are coming together to honor veterans through cleaning veterans’ headstones at Woodlawn and Oak Ridge cemeteries in Fort Myers on Saturday, November 9 from 1-4 p.m.
Partnering with the City of Fort Myers, American Legion Post 38 Commander Kevin Boyd is leading the effort to get members involved this Veterans Day weekend. “Our members want to help with the caretaking of graves in honor of the service and sacrifice that has been given,” said Commander Boyd. “This was an opportunity to perform a needed service, following our mission statement of supporting our troops, taking care of our veterans and to serve the community.”
Mayor Randy Henderson welcomes the efforts to clean veterans’ headstones. “The City of Fort Myers supports veterans and honors the sacrifice of those who have served our country.” Participating American Legion chapters include Post 38, Post 90, Post 192, Post 351, Post 323, and American Legion Riders from District 13.
