FORT MYERS, FL (Sept. 3, 2019) – For the 28th consecutive year, the City of Fort Myers has earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The honor was presented for the city’s 2019 fiscal year budget, which began October 2018. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reflects the city’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
In order to receive the GFOA award, government entities must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. An entity’s budget is required to serve as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
“As the city grows there is more competition for resources. Sound fiscal policy is paramount,” says Saeed Kazemi, P.E., City Manager. “The comprehensive information presented to the Mayor and City Council allows them to make timely, well-informed decisions.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional services association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
