FORT MYERS, FL (July 16, 2019) – The City of Fort Myers Human Resources Department hosted a health and benefit fair for all city employees today at the Collaboratory, located at 2031 Jackson Street, Fort Myers. Representatives from city benefit providers were available onsite to service open enrollment needs and provide literature regarding medical, dental and vision benefits, and options for AFLAC, disability, flexible spending and supplemental life insurance.
Lee Health, along with other community healthcare providers and holistic practitioners, attended offering balance and strength testing, vision screenings, blood pressure screenings, chair massage, information on sleep disorders and more. Employee wellness programs and employee participation in disease prevention and maintenance initiatives have driven down the city’s cost to insure its workforce for the past two consecutive years.
In fiscal year 2018-19, insurance ratepayers (the city, city employees and city retirees) saved a total of 2.1 percent on insurance premiums. In fiscal year 2019-20, ratepayers will save 5.8 percent, which equates to approximately $691,000 in savings. Earlier this year, the Mayor and City Council recognized these employee efforts and applauded the Human Resources Department for increased employee participation in the city’s health and wellness programs.
