FORT MYERS, FL (July 16, 2019) – Mayor Randall P. Henderson, Jr. has organized a Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee to assist in evaluating the city’s diversity and inclusion policies. Assembled in conjunction with Dr. Peter Ndiang’ui, Professor of Diversity at Florida Gulf Coast University, the first committee meeting takes place on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Collaboratory, located at 2031 Jackson Street, Fort Myers.
The committee is pursuing data-driven research and analysis to measure efforts to recruit and retain minority companies for city services, engage employees from all backgrounds to work in the city, and include other diversity-related organizations that could assist in these efforts. Dr. Ndiang’ui has been instrumental in organizing committee members and volunteers to become involved with the project.
The City of Fort Myers has long recognized the rich history and culture of the area, supporting citizen-guided expansion of arts and culture, especially in its historic downtown district. The Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee seeks to enhance outreach efforts and identify new opportunities throughout the city.
