City Manager Saeed Kazemi, P. E.


On February 9, 2016, the City of Fort Myers’ Mayor and City Council unanimously appointed Saeed Kazemi, P.E. as the City Manager of the City of Fort Myers, following his selection and service as the City of Fort Myers’ Interim City Manager between October 1, 2015 and February 8, 2016.  As City Manager, Mr. Kazemi is in charge of managing the day-to-day operations of the City and implementing City policies put into effect by the City’s Mayor and City Council.  Mr. Kazemi is also responsible for cost-efficiently and cost-effectively developing and administering the City’s annual operating and capital budgets, providing guidance and direction to all City departments, and the management of over 900 City employees.

In addition to his public administration and management expertise, Mr. Kazemi is a well-respected and accomplished Civil Engineer who has held responsibility for the planning, financing, design, and construction of City work projects valued at over $500 million.  With a passion for urban planning and development, multi-agency collaborations, infrastructure improvements, and operating and capital fiscal planning, Mr. Kazemi’s experience in the fields of public works and engineering encompass extensive knowledge and understanding of the areas of construction, operation, and maintenance, including work with roads, traffic, drainage, sanitary sewers, lift stations, water distribution, water and wastewater treatment, contract administration, and contract fee negotiations.

Prior to accepting the position of City Manager, Mr. Kazemi worked as the City of Fort Myers’ Public Works Director for 8 years, between 2008 and 2016, and as the City’s Engineer for 7 years, between 2001 and 2008.  Before joining the City, Mr. Kazemi served as a Division Manager for Lee County Government for 13 years, between 1988 and 2001.

A Lee County resident for almost 3-decades, Mr. Kazemi is a member of the International City County Manager’s Association, the Florida City County Manager’s Association, the American Public Works Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Florida Engineering Society.  He holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Mid-West College of Engineering in Lombard, Illinois, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in Chicago.  Married to his sweetheart, Farzaneh for 33 years, together the Kazemi’s have two sons, 30-year old Omeed and 26-year old Ameen, who both live in Austin, Texas.
