Fort Myers Aquatic Center prepares for a facility renovation
The Fort Myers Aquatic Center, located at 1750 Matthew Drive, is gearing up for a $1.2 million facility upgrade to include pool resurfacing, tile replacement and installation of modern filtration technologies. The Aquatic Center will be closed for approximately four months for construction (barring unforeseen equipment delays due COVID-19). Closure date is April 12th.
To accommodate patrons and members, the Golfview Pool, located at 1865 Golfview Avenue, will offer extended hours. During leisure swim, two lap lanes will remain open for lap swimmers.
- Lap swim Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Lap swim Tuesday & Thursday: 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Leisure swim Monday through Friday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Weekend leisure swim hours Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also The S.T.A.R.S. Complex Pool, located at 2980 Edison Avenue, will offer hours for lap and leisure swimming. Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To speak with a staff member during office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., please call 239-321-7565. Current members holding a valid six-month or annual membership will get an extension for the duration of the closure. During the closure, no Funbrella rentals, pavilion rentals, or summer camps will be allowed. Hours and limitations are subject to change based on seasonal demand.
Facility staff is arranging a limited group swim lesson schedule. Please see the city’s website https://cityftmyers.com/1388/Aquatics for all up to date information regarding aquatic programs, hours of operations and the status of the renovation.
The Fort Myers Aquatic Center opened in 2001 and continuously expanded its programs, reaching maximum capacity every summer season. Over time and exposure to the harsh Florida elements, the filtration system, pumps and aesthetics have reached life expectancy.
This planned renovation was included in the city’s fiscal year 2021 budget. A high-rate glass filtration system and state-of-the-art chemical controller will keep the water balanced at all times to meet Florida Department of Health (FDOH) standards. The kiddie pool will benefit from the same filtration system along with a water feature pump enhanced with Ultraviolet light to maintain water quality at the highest and safest levels possible.
