About the Department

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a variety of services relating to:

  • Application software development, support and project management
  • Computer, mobile device and telecommunications services
  • Web and Graphic design services
  • Technology support and assistance to all internal city clients and departments
  • Cyber Security and Emergency Communications

Department Structure

Information systems technology changes rapidly and new systems and technology are continually being implemented and installed. The ITS Department strives to translate this technology into higher productivity for our agencies and departments, and higher quality output with reduced costs of operations that ultimately benefits the citizens of Fort Myers.

System & Network Support

The department maintains and develops the city´s core communication infrastructure including the local and wide area network. The department maintains file and application servers and network security. The department also performs asset management, software distribution, and technical support for hardware and software.

Development

The ITS Development division provides design, development, implementation and continued support of specialized applications, data, and databases citywide.

GIS Services

The ITS department provides Online Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maps and data for The city of Fort Myers. The City of Fort Myers has a Small Government Enterprise License Agreement (SGELA) with ESRI Inc., the leading GIS software vendor in the world. The City of Fort Myers ITS GIS division provides internal GIS support for the various city departments that use GIS. Citizens can view web maps and download geographic data from the City’s ArchGIS Hub.

Training

Our help desk and software training program help ensure levels of competencies are maintained and our clients fully utilize the technology available to them, which provides our citizens with more efficient and cost-effective results. In conjunction with the Human Resources department ITS trains city personnel on the use of various applications for a more effective government.  

Graphics and Web Development

In-house graphic specialists and web developers offer to assist any city agency or department in design and/or production of internal and external marketing pieces such as billboards, invitations, brochures, and newsletters. The ITS Department develops, implements and maintains the city´s Internet and Intranet services.

Copy Center

A full-service copy center provides city agencies and departments with a wide range of services including high-volume reproduction, cutting, binding, and mounting of most any type of document.

Public Communications

Assisting the City’s Public Information Office (Hyperlink) ITS plays a key role in informing  the public of needed information. The ITS department is in charge of the management of the city´s Government Access Channel. The ITS Department supervises the content and programming to provide a continual communication service to our citizens. Additionally, the ITS department administers the City of Fort Myers Mobile applications, and Citizen Request System (link) which allows citizens to be engaged with their government. 

Technology Project Management

Technology projects that are complex needing many months of implementation time and involving various city departments are managed by ITS. Proper project management ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. 

Emergency and Cyber-Security Preparedness

Technology assets including sensitive public safety and financial data are under threat from both cyber criminals and physical disaster. One of the ITS departments main priorities is to protect the city’s data from theft by criminals, or disasters such as hurricanes.
