The Fort Myers Police Department will present “Do The Right Thing” awards to six local students on Thursday, October 15 at 3 p.m. The awards ceremony will take place at City Hall in downtown Fort Myers. The following students will receive awards:
- Austin Berry: He came to the aid of a student who was having difficulty getting to the side of the pool. The student in need was apparently suffering from a severe leg cramp and the lifeguard was busy and did not hear the cries for help.
- Michael Krupick: Besides always trying his best and following the rules he returned an envelope full of money when a teacher accidentally put it in his homework folder.
- Gage Cordova: He assisted a student whose family is struggling financially by giving the student a pair of tennis shoes for P.E. class. The student was wearing his dad’s shoes that did not fit him properly.
- Brittnie Cosby: She has overcome some obstacles in her life and has become a great example for others. She participates in the Fort Myers Police Department’s Adopt-A-Senior program, was nominated for class president, and participates in basketball. She has been a member of the PAL track team and is helpful around the house.
- Griff Jones: He assisted a neighbor who is physically impaired and was locked out of her house. He heard her calls for help and immediately found an adult that could assist her.
- Mark Ganim: The Fort Myers Fire Department nominated him for his assistance in preventing a tragedy. A five-year old autistic boy was witnessed walking straight into a pond in the neighborhood. Mark pulled the boy from the pond before emergency services arrived on scene. He did all of this while having his own hand in a cast.
The “Do The Right Thing” program recognizes and encourages good behavior of Lee County students. Any adult can nominate a child by contacting the Fort Myers Police Department at 321-7700 or via email at mbuice@fmpolice.com
