Mission Statement
The Fort Myers Waterfronts Partnership Committee strives to enrich the lives of those who work, live, and play in the River District by creating an inviting, culturally rich destination. This mission will be accomplished through preserving public access to the river, protecting the environment, preparing for natural hazards to the Waterfronts area and providing support to its businesses.
History
The Downtown redevelopment district, otherwise known as the River District, was named a Waterfronts Florida Partnership Community by the State of Florida in 2009. This designation provides a two-year funding grant of up to $37,500 per year—and more importantly—statewide networking and technical assistance for development of the waterfront.
Since receiving this honor, a local steering committee was formed to determine applicable projects as outlined in Fort Myers’ Waterfronts Florida Vision Plan. First year funding was spent on amending the 2003 Downtown Plan to include the 2009 Riverfront Development Plan, performing an economic impact analysis of the results of the proposed Riverfront Development Plan, and marketing special events held in the River District as well as the area as a whole.
Committee
The Fort Myers Waterfronts Partnership Committee meets monthly. The Committee consists of Rose Rundle, Chair; Phil Gaylor, Vice Chair; Jared Beck, Natalie Dunham, Leif Lustig, Saeed Kazemi, Kaye Molnar, Edith Pendleton, Michael Piggott, Gina Taylor and Leigh Scrabis, program manager.
Community members are welcome to participate in meetings. Meetings are typically held the fourth Tuesday of the month at 11:30 a.m. Please contact Waterfronts Program Manager Leigh Scrabis at 239-321-7100 or by email at lscrabis@cityftmyers.com.
