Cleveland Avenue
Cleveland Area Redevelopment Plan

Welcome to the Cleveland Avenue Redevelopment Plan web site. While this project may only cover a 3.5-mile stretch of Cleveland Avenue, the changes it will create are going to affect the lives of the 50,000 people who live, work and travel this stretch of road each day.

Located in southwest Florida, the City of Fort Myers is experiencing an exciting time of redevelopment. One exciting part about this change is the fact that the redevelopment is no longer focused just on Downtown Fort Myers but is spilling over into other areas and neighborhoods within the City.

On this website, you will find information about the Cleveland Redevelopment project. The Event Schedule will inform you of upcoming events in which you can get involved and share your thoughts. The Project Updates will update you on the progress of the redevelopment effort. You will not only learn about our progress, but you will be able to view the same information that was presented to the public at each of our meetings. You can also view maps of the four Cleveland Redevelopment Districts on the Project Maps page.

We encourage you to get involved in this redevelopment process. This is your chance to leave your mark on the City of Fort Myers. Come share your thoughts at the meetings and visit this site to check our progress. We want this to be an effort of which we are all proud!

Project Overview
The Cleveland Area Redevelopment Plan will provide a vision and development strategy for the 3.5-mile stretch of Cleveland Avenue, which runs south from the downtown to the area around the Page Field Airport. A map of the project area is located on the Project Maps page.

The goal of the plan is to improve the appearance of the corridor and to encourage private investment and quality redevelopment in the corridor. The plan will guide the policy and actions of the City of Fort Myers, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency (FMRA) in the Cleveland Avenue area.

Specifically, the Redevelopment Plan will provide guidance on how funds from the four existing redevelopment districts along Cleveland Avenue should be spent to improve the corridor. The plan will address:

  • Land use
  • Beautification
  • Economic development
  • Transportation improvements
  • Buffering between commercial and residential neighborhoods
  • Area character.
