The City of Fort Myers Stormwater Management section exists to achieve and maintain a high level of drainage and flood protection for all citizens and monitor, improve, and maintain water quality in compliance with state and federal permit requirements.

What We Do:

  • Update the 1987 Drainage Master Plan to enable us to plan improvements to provide a uniform drainage benefit to all property in within the city.
  • Manage drainage improvement components of the ongoing utility improvements throughout the city.
  • Construct flood protection projects in vulnerable areas: Dean Park
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations concerning stormwater management by municipalities:
    - Inspection of all land disturbing construction activities within the city
    - Inspection of industrial sites
    - Investigation of water quality problems
    - Water quality monitoring program
    - Public education program
  • Review new development to ensure proper management of stormwater.
