FORT MYERS, FL (October 4, 2017) – The City of Fort Myers will resume bulk items and junk pickups on Thursday, October 5. Customers will be served on their regularly scheduled day from Oct. 5-10, with Oct. 11 scheduled as a make-up day for bulk item pickup.
Bulk item and junk pickups had been suspended after Hurricane Irma, in order for the City to concentrate on restoring trash, recycling, and yard debris pickups. After Oct. 10, the City will evaluate whether to continue collecting bulk items weekly or to reduce the schedule again in order to focus on horticultural storm debris.
The City restored yard debris service by Sept. 12 and solid waste service by Sept. 13, mere days after Hurricane Irma’s landfall. So far, Solid Waste crews and City contractors have picked up more than 110,000 cubic yards of storm debris.
To expedite the pickup process, Citizens are reminded to keep their bulk items and junk separate from yard waste, trash and recycling.
If you have any questions concerning your service, please contact the City of Fort Myers 24-hour response line at (239) 321-8100.
