FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 29, 2017) – Thanks to the Bicycle Parking Project, the City of Fort Myers is working to make cycling more convenient in the Downtown River District. Twenty bicycle racks in the downtown area have been added to the Bicycle Parking mobile application, a free app available for both Apple and Android devices.
The Bicycle Parking app utilizes a worldwide database of bicycle racks and other bicycle parking spaces. The City’s bicycle rack information was contributed to the database by City of Fort Myers “Step Up to Work” student aides and engineering interns from Florida Gulf Coast University.
The mobile application enables users to locate a convenient bicycle rack and find their bicycle after visiting. Use of the Bicycle Parking app promotes a bicycle-friendly atmosphere in the City of Fort Myers. Residents, business owners, and visitors are invited to mark additional bicycle racks throughout the city to assist other riders in their search for a bike rack.
The City plans to add the bike racks located at City facilities to the database in the near future.
