FORT MYERS, FL (September 21, 2017) – The City of Fort Myers has rescheduled its preliminary and final budget hearings, which had been postponed because of Hurricane Irma. The new date and time for the preliminary budget hearing will be Monday, Sept. 25 at 5:15 p.m. and the final budget hearing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 5:15 p.m. Both budget hearings will be held in City Council chambers at City Hall, 2200 Second St.
In early September, Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 17-235. Section 4 of the Executive Order states that government agencies may waive or deviate from statutes, rules, ordinances, and orders they administer to the extent that such actions are necessary in response to the Hurricane Irma Emergency. As a result, the Florida Department of Revenue issued an Emergency Order waiving statutory timing requirements regarding millage and budget hearings.
The primary election for the City of Fort Myers has also been rescheduled. The new date for the primary will be Tuesday, Oct. 3. Citizens seeking information about polling locations or early voting may visit the Lee County Supervisor of Elections website at www.lee.vote. Primary election results will be certified by Fort Myers City Council during a special meeting on Friday, Oct. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
