FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 31, 2017) – Mayor Randall P. Henderson, Jr. has announced that the first coffee table book featuring contemporary Fort Myers has been published and will soon be available for purchase. Entitled Fort Myers, City of Palms – A Contemporary Portrait, the new book highlights the life, times, and people of the Fort Myers area, while showcasing the region’s dynamic heritage, cultural offerings, stunning environment and diverse economy.
Starting August 4, the books will be on sale at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates’ gift shop for the publisher's suggested retail price of $49.95. Additional retail outlets and online merchants will be announced in the near future. One hundred percent of net proceeds will be assigned to Art in Public Places, a division of the City of Fort Myers, and managed by the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. The fund will be utilized for the procurement, management, and maintenance of the City’s public art collection.
“When I learned of the opportunity for this book through the United States Conference of Mayors, it struck me as a worthy endeavor,” says Mayor Henderson. “The producer, Ron Lammert, president and CEO of the Historical Publishing Network in San Antonio, Texas, engaged outstanding local professionals to pull it all together. I know you will be as pleased as I am.”
Fort Myers, City of Palms – A Contemporary Portrait is comprised of more than 150 pages of vivid photographs by Emmy Award winning photographer/videographer Ilene Safron of Main Sail Video Productions. The photos are accompanied by a narrative authored by award-winning local writer Amy Bennett Williams. Funding for the book came from local sponsors.
“What a privilege to be able to highlight and share this place,” says Williams. “I found myself falling in love with Fort Myers all over again.”
“Being the photographer for a book on contemporary Fort Myers has been an amazing assignment,” says Safron. “The pictures in this book show how Fort Myers and its surrounding outer islands allow for a quality lifestyle that’s hard to find anywhere else in the world.”
Fort Myers, City of Palms – A Contemporary Portrait will be distributed through numerous outlets including local retailers and online booksellers. The official launch takes place after an August 3 reception to thank the sponsors and those who participated in the creation of the book.
