Langford-Kingston Home

Dear Langford-Kingston Home Supporter,

Langford-Kingston HomePlease consider writing a letter to support a grant request by the City of Fort Myers. The City is applying for a state grant for Phase II for the Remodeling, Restoration and Sitework of the Langford-Kingston Home. The 5, 232 square foot structure possesses substantial opportunity for historic restoration. The Chicago Bungalow Style Home features architectural attributes commonly observed in the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, which include the large front porch with massive supports, front stoop, and grand staircase. The structure played a significant role in the history of Fort Myers. Two prominent businessmen have called this structure home. The original owner and builder Mr. Walter Langford constructed the home in 1919. He contributed to our area in the banking and railroad industries and lived this until his death in 1920. Mr. George Kingston, the inventor of the Kingston carburetor, bought the home in 1925. Last year the home received a Special Category Grant for the relocation, stabilization and restoration of the home. The community funds raised previously in conjunction with the Lee Trust for Historic Preservation and the Special Category Grant will complete the relocation and stabilization effort. It is important for us to receive funding to continue our efforts of restoring the building.
