Fort Myers, FL (August 20, 2007) – Mayor Jim Humphrey and the Fort Myers City Council awarded $51,900 to 16 different organizations and individuals at the City Council meeting. This is the sixth year the City has awarded grants to non-profit organizations. Since starting the Arts and Culture Grants program, the Council has given nearly $300,000 to 71 individuals and organizations. The City recognizes the importance of the arts to the cultural, educational and economic well-being of its diverse population. The City’s goal is to encourage artistic quality and program innovation by providing funding for arts and cultural programs.
