Fort Myers, FL (August 21, 2006) – Mayor Jim Humphrey and Fort Myers City Council awarded $51,900 to 15 different organizations and individuals at tonight’s City Council meeting. This is the fifth year the City has awarded grants to non-profit organizations. Since starting the Arts and Culture Grants program, the Council has given more than $240,000 to 55 individuals and organizations. The City recognizes the importance of the arts to the cultural, educational and economic well-being of its diverse population. The City’s goal is to encourage artistic quality and program innovation by providing funding for arts and cultural programs.

- Florida Arts, Inc. - $7,000
- Woodturners of SWFL - $2,000
- Young Artists Awards - $3,000
- Arts for ACT Gallery - $3,500
- Art League of Fort Myers - $3,000
- Colours School of the Arts - $7,000
- Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers - $2,000
- Gulfcoast Dance, Inc. - $4,000
- Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra - $2,000
- Lee County Alliance for the Arts - $3,500
- Out of the Box Productions - $2,000
- Theatre Conspiracy - $7,000
- Mark Cranford (individual artist) - $1,950
- Charles Johnson (individual artist) - $1,950
