Fort Myers, FL (July 31, 2003) – The City of Fort Myers will award $65,000 to 8 different individuals or organizations on Monday, August 4, 2003, during the city council meeting.  This is the second year the City has awarded grants to non-profit organizations. Last year $70,000 was awarded to eleven organizations.  The City recognizes the importance of the arts to the cultural, educational and economic well being of its diverse population.  The City’s goal is to encourage artistic quality and program innovation therefore providing funding for arts and cultural programs. The grants will be awarded at 4:30pm at City Hall, 2200 Second Street, Fort Myers.

The following organizations will be awarded checks:

• Woodturners of SWFL, Inc. for - $4,000
• Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, Inc. for - $4,000
• Florida Arts, Inc. for - $10,000
• Theatre Conspiracy for - $10,000
• Southwest Florida Symphony for - $10,000
• Lee County Alliance for the Arts for - $10,000
• Art League of Fort Myers for - $7,000
• Art Fest Fort Myers for - $10,000
