Mr. William P. Mitchell, City Manager, City of Fort Myers
William “Billy” Mitchell was appointed by City Council to serve as City Manager in 2007. The City Manager is responsible for implementing City Council policies, managing all City departments and 900 employees, and developing and administering the City’s annual operating and capital budgets.
With many years of senior management experience in local government prior to his tenure in Fort Myers, Mr. Mitchell served as Assistant City Manager of Newport News, Virginia and as Assistant to the City Manager and Administrative Assistant in the cities of Chesapeake and Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The City Manager ensures that City services are delivered in an efficient and cost effective manner.
Mr. Marvin E. Collins III, Assistant City Manager, City of Fort Myers
Marvin “Marc” Collins was hired as Assistant City Manager of Fort Myers in 2009. The Assistant City Manager is responsible for supporting the City Manager in implementing City Council policies, managing City departments and personnel, providing for citizen communications, and serving as the economic development liaison for the City.
Prior to joining the management team in Fort Myers, Mr. Collins served as the Assistant County Manager / Planning Director in Burke County, North Carolina as well as Senior County Planner, and County Planner. Prior experience included serving as a Parks Supervisor and Recreation Program Assistant for Catawba County and Orange County, North Carolina. Mr. Collins holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Master of Public Administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
As assigned by the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager provides managerial oversight for the functions of Public Works, Community Development, Parks and Recreation, Historic and Cultural Affairs, Harborside Events Center, and the Yacht Basin. The Assistant City Manager works to ensure the fair and equitable provision of public service to all citizens in an efficient and effective manner.
